American Indian Magazine goes digital

Today we launched the American Indian magazine website!  Thank you everyone for pulling so hard the last few days.  This along with the web and iPad version of American Indian magazine make us the first Smithsonian unit to do both and will provide American Indian Magazine access to a much larger national and international community.

Eileen Maxwell, Editor in Chief, American Indian Magazine, Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian.

For the past decade, evcconsulting has been working the NMAI to design and produce their American Indian magazine. In 2011 we were asked to develop the new magazine web site and provide the magazine in a digital/iPad format that would encourage more readership. This digital transformation was also an important part of the ongoing green initiative that is part of the fabric of the Museum. American Indian Magazine is now developing into a community-driven publication. By improving the Magazine’s web presence NMAI is laying a strong foundation to build a large North American and international community that improves public awareness of the Museum, increasing attendance and membership.

The activities of the project included the following:

  • Creation of the new American Indian e-magazine and iPad App.
  • Complete design and development of a new website.
  • Proactive project management of workflow and budget.
  • Ongoing meetings and status updates throughout the project term.
  • Install and customization of Drupal 7.
